Dey Mansion Celebrates Distaff Day

In many European cultural traditions, women resumed their household work after the “twelve days of Christmas.” Women of all classes would spend their evenings on the wheel. During the day, they would carry a drop spindle with them. Spinning was the only means of turning raw wool, cotton or flax into thread, which would then be woven into cloth.

Join us for demonstrations on how to use a spinning wheel and drop spindle. For more information, please contact us at 973-696-1776 or deymansion@passaiccountynj.org

In case of snow, a rescheduled date is planned for January 14, 2018.
